about The penn vetERINARY shelter medicine

The Penn Vet Shelter Medicine Program has plans for a mobile unit -- a surgical and medical clinic that will also serve as a real-world classroom for Penn Vet students and the community. The Penn Vet mobile unit will empower Shelter Medicine Program students, veterinarians, and faculty to provide advanced care for shelter animals and pets in at-risk communities without access to veterinary care.

The 40-foot unit will house a state-of-the-art surgical suite and will be equipped with advanced equipments and tools not readily available at most shelters.

With the addition of the mobile unit, the Penn Vet Shelter Medicine Program and its shelter partners will be able to make more animals adoptable more quickly -- a life-saving outcome for the many homeless animals in the Philadelphia region.

The mobile unit also will allow the Penn Vet Shelter Medicine Program to implement a humane education and community outreach initiative with enriching experiences for local middle and high schools in Philadelphia.
